Our Story

M & M Lumber’s Story.

M&M Lumber was the vision of two friends, Richard Michaelis and Gerald Mehr. They saw a need in the community for a local family owned lumber yard. M&M Lumber was incorporated on March 17th, 1986. Dick & Gerry purchased an empty warehouse and renovated it to house their new enterprise.

IN THE BEGINNING

The two friends ran M&M Lumber Inc. primarily as a contractor yard. They catered mainly to the needs of the local contractors. As the business grew, it became apparent, that there was a need to supply a wider range of products for the do-it-yourselfers. This gave them an opportunity to hire great local employees to run the daily operations of the business.

1991 – 1992

In the fall of 1991, M&M Lumber Inc. became a member of the Minneapolis based hardware wholesaler, Our Own Hardware Company. The fall and winter of 1991, the building was remodeled to accommodate a retail location. With the addition of Our Own Hardware, they could offer their customers builder’s hardware, paint and tools.

M&M Lumber Inc. had a grand opening as a retail location on April 9, 1992. The company has grown since then, it now includes a full line of rental equipment, including contractor tools, lawn and garden equipment, skid steers, backhoe, tents, tables and chairs. We offer a mix of services that include free estimates, drafting and design, paint matching, snow removal, grave digging, glass cutting, key cutting and lock rekeying. Our business offers additional products and materials that accommodate all sizes of construction and landscape projects. M&M Lumber Inc. is you one stop shop for all your needs.

Today as members of Do It Best Corp, the world’s largest hardware store, we can offer more goods and services than ever before. You can shop online and have it ship-to-store, at no additional cost. M&M Lumber Inc. is now a second generation business, with Darren Michaelis running the daily operations, in the same location that the business began back in 1986. With a long standing, experienced and dedicated staff, we are serving all your building and project needs from small to large. We pride ourselves in offering exceptional service and products to our local community.
